Hot on the heels of Milan, Barcelona Design Week starts today and continues through June 12th with an impressive program.

While we wish we could be there ourselves for the 11th edition of the event, attendance last year peaked at 11,000 visitors so there’s sure to be great online coverage as professional and creative companies from around the world meet to share their common interests and objectives: meet new trends, network and share knowledge and projects within the sector.

Some highlights include:

  • Opening conference: ‘What if the solution was Design? Re-framing the role of design in business and society.’ Alice Rawsthorn (design writer for the International New York Times and frieze) will explore design’s impact on our lives: past, present and future.
  • Ciao inFood: Barcelona-based designers, including Manuel Torres Design and Isabel López & Asociados studios, will give individual talks followed by moderated debates with additional guests to address subjects related to architects and interior designers specialized in retail, restaurants and shopping centres, which the owners themselves will attend in order to discover how to improve their establishments and their sales.
  • Bulthaup with Mermelada: bach 7 hosts the presentation of the new collection of pieces created by the industrial designers from Barcelona-based Mermelada Estudio. Witty and unconventional objects designed to fill our daily life with a special touch.
  • Design selection by Revista INTERIORES: For the second time, INTERIORES magazine invites the people of Barcelona to visit aselection of establishments of decoration, architecture and interior design, with special discount offers throughout the week.
